About Southern Charm Jewelers

Your local Jewelry experts

Michelle McNeill grew up in beautiful Oak Island, North Carolina where her parents opened their jewelry store, Oak Island Jewelers, in 1976.  Michelle, only 3 years old at the time, remembers climbing up on a stool beside her parents as they were helping a customer….and once she did that….there was no stopping whatever she chose to say.

As the years went by, Michelle acquired her tremendous jewelry knowledge, and learned to appreciate the romance and artistry of fine jewelry.  Every piece and every sale has its own story.  Michelle has grown into a true professional with a passion for serving her customers’ best interest, and has earned the reputation of integrity.

In 1996 she married Michael, the love of her life.  Michael was a great sales associate, but he was also quite skilled in jewelry repair.   In the year 2000, Michelle took time off to raise their two sons.

Michelle has always been accused of having much Southern charm, thus, their business name, “Southern Charm Jewelers.”  Michelle is a 3rd generation jeweler, as her maternal grandfather was, also, a jeweler/watchmaker.  Now there will soon be a 4th generation jeweler at Southern Charm Jewelers, as their youngest son, Garrett, is learning jewelry and watch repair….not to mention….he has always had a love for fine jewelry, and he has that same Southern charm!

When you walk in Southern Charm Jewelers, you will be greeted by one of our amazing sales staff and will feel like a part of the family. Our goal is to give you the best experience possible. Don’t forget to say hello to Cooper, our shop dog.

Michelle’s father, Ray Carteret, is a master watchmaker with more than 53 years of experience (45 years in the Southport-Oak Island area) whose skill level has reached the top in his field.   Ray’s exceptional mechanical and troubleshooting abilities, along with his determined and perfectionist mindset has earned him a reputation across the country.  He is often the “successful last stop” for difficult watches that have been to so many who were unable to repair them.

Ray specializes in the complicated, high-grade, mechanical watches such as Rolex, Omega, Chronographs, Antique Pocket and Wrist Watches, etc.  Much of his work comes to him from collectors or simply individuals who value these cherished timepieces.  Our local customers love the idea of their keepsake watches not being sent out for repair.  You may even want to visit our store to purchase one of Ray’s fully-restored antique watches from his collection.  It’s difficult to find an heirloom gift such as one of these fine collectibles.
